PRINT ACTIVITY

Fingers and Toes

In this activity, you and your child will use a song and rhyme to point to body parts.

Learning Area(s): Language and Communication; Social and Emotional

MATERIALS

  • None

LET'S PLAY

Introduce your infant or toddler to the song, with bare feet so that she can see and wiggle her toes. Point to each body part as you sing, and help your child by touching or pointing to these body parts. Start off slowly, and then as your child gets the hang of it, speed up a bit.

Fingers and toes, fingers and toes.

Here are your fingers, and here are your toes.

Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes.

Here are your fingers, and here are your toes.

Wave with your fingers, wave with your toes.

Here are your fingers, and here are your toes.

Another song is:

Head, shoulders, knees, and toes,

Knees and toes!

Head, shoulders, knees, and toes,

Knees and toes!

Eyes and ears and mouth and nose,

Head, shoulders, knees, and toes,

Knees and toes!

TIPS

  • As your toddler becomes familiar with these chants and with these body parts, you can increase the challenge by adding and substituting different body parts such as cheeks, chin, elbows, ankles, etc.
  • A book that goes along with these songs is From Head to Toe by Eric Carle. You can read the book aloud with your child and then sing the song.
